Compare two PDFs

See what changed between two versions: removed words in red, added words in green, side by side, saved as a PDF.

Differences can be missed, or marked where there are none. Comparing by text uses the text stored in the PDF, so choose appearance for scans. If a page was added or removed, the pages after it are compared out of step.

Your files are never sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Drop the old version first, then the new one (use the arrows to swap them).
  2. Choose to compare the text, or the appearance (for scans and drawings).
  3. Press Run. Download the side-by-side PDF and the text file listing every change.

Questions and answers

What does the result look like?

One landscape page per page pair: the old page on the left, the new one on the right, with a header counting the changes. Removed words are shaded red, added words green.

The pages moved; does it still work?

Pages are compared by number, so an inserted page shifts everything after it. The text file still lists the words that differ; a visual comparison of shifted pages shows everything as changed.

Can it compare scans?

Choose Appearance: the two pages are laid over each other and the areas that differ are marked. To compare word by word, run Text recognition (OCR) on both files first.
